Now the designer is suing rival fashion house Yves Saint Laurent, claiming it has ­copied his ­trademark motif and the French ­heavyweights are set to battle it out in a New York court.

High Heels at Dawn: Louboutin Sees Red – Since 1992, Louboutin’s designs have incorporated the shiny, red-lacquered soles that have become his signature. On March 27, 2007, Louboutin filed an application for U.S. trademark protection of this red sole design. “Mr. Louboutin is the first designer to develop the idea of having red soles on women’s shoes,” the lawsuit states.

High Heels at Dawn: Louboutin Sees Red – A pair of Louboutin shoes can add six inches of height to a woman, giving the appearance that she has longer legs. They can fetch as much as $4,500, with the cheapest pair costing about $600.

They’re a favorite on the red carpet, and have been spotted on the feet of Hollywood celebrities. Beyoncé wears them as well as Madonna, Angelina Jolie, and Jennifer Lopez, who recorded a single called “Louboutins,” in which she informs her man she’s going to slip on her Louboutins before she dumps him.
