New Trends In Menswear - Milan menswear fashion week is over and another, Paris menswear, is about to begin this week. So we’ve been taking an interest in men’s clothing.

In summary…

Jackets were cut sharply with slim, defined shoulders and thin lapels: check out Raf Simons for Jil Sander. Trousers were cigarette cuts ending just above the ankle, often with something going on in that area: cuffs, roll-ups or zips (a la Gucci). Or they were baggy with pockets, in a nod to utility wear. We also saw the odd harem pant (but we’d prefer not to mention that).

Gucci, Prada and a few others showcased skinny ties, or no ties at all, with shirts buttoned up to the top and thin collars. Elsewhere we saw a lot of loose-fitting vests, generally with slashed fabric - we’d advise getting a tan before attempting to pull this off.

The safari look from last season carried on in many of the collections. Missoni had a lot of sunbleached khaki, which made the models look as if they’d spent a week traversing a desert. Versace used loose-fitting linens in a colonial look, involving tunic tops and trousers in shades of white and cream.

The other overriding influence was the eighties, but this was seen mainly in the shiny fabrics and trims rather than in the tailoring. There were no power shoulders here.

Royal Ascot 2009 began on Tuesday and runs through Saturday with some of the best racing in the UK along with members of the Royal family in attendance.

Queen Installs Vegetable Patch at Buckingham Palace - I have just read an interesting article in the UK’s DailyTelegraph.co.uk that HM Queen Elizabeth, the Queen of England, has joined the “grow your own” revolution after creating a vegetable plot at Buckingham Palace.

For the first time since the Second World War vegetables are being grown in the Palace’s grounds alongside ornamental plants.

The move comes amid a surge in demand from people up and down the country to have their own allotment to grow their own food during the recession.

In the underwear campaign for Emporio Armani, the oiled up football star is reclining on a rope and sporting a slick side-parting to show the designer underwear.

Beckham made a personal apperance at Selfridges for the unveiling of this latest advertising campaign for Emporio Armani underwear. TV presenter Gabby Logan was on hand to host the event.

Emma Watson New Face of Burberry - Advertising campaign images for Burberry featuring Emma Watson, the young Harry Potter actress, have been unveiled.

With dark, smoky eye-make up and windswept hair, Emma Watson looks a far cry from the young Harry Potter heroine Hermione Granger in her latest incarnation as the “face” of British fashion label Burberry.

The 19 year-old actress confirms a sophisticated and grown-up look in the images, as she models signature items – such as the classic trench coat and accessories, adorned by the iconic Burberry check, from the heritage brand’s forthcoming autumn/winter 2009/10 collection.

Watson, who is carving out a figure as a leading style icon – caught the eye of Burberry’s creative director who said:

“Having known and admired the lovely Emma Watson for some time, she was the obvious choice for this campaign. Emma has a classic beauty, a great character and a modern edge. Her charm and intellect and brilliant sense of fun made the whole shoot feel like a picnic on the Thames.”

The advertising campaign, which was shot by celebrated fashion photographer Mario Testino and directed by Bailey, was set in Westminster, central London, home to Burberry’s new global headquarters at Horseferry House, SW1.

Its new Sport of Life range is designed to redefine sportswear, removing it from the max-action sweat-and-strain arenas of gym, track and field, to everyday activities such as running for a bus or the Tube and walking in the park.

The collection embraces the surefire sales formula which has made Uniqlo so successful since it opened its first store in London in 2001: fit, fashionable, functional and affordable.

The collection also incorporates a new two-way stretch fabric for maximum flexibility and movement and, like Uniqlo’s sought-after cashmere knits, down-fill jackets and skinny-fit jeans, the pieces are available in the now-expected rainbow parade of colours.

It all seems a far cry from the quirky, off-beat, street wardrobe of men’s jackets, rock-gig T-shirts, Trilbys and Dr Martens, which have made Agyness Deyn the most copied - and most instantly-recognisable - model since Kate Moss.

But the addition of funky socks and the odd string of pearls at least give a hint of Aggy’s trademark style. You can even just imagine her running for the bus in those high heels.

In a recent article entitled World’s Most Powerful Celebrity we reported that Angelina Jolie is the World’s Most Powerful Celebrity, according to Forbes magazine.

Forbes’ Celebrity 100 power rankings are based on a combination of earning power and media exposure.

And now Angelina Graces Harpers Bazaar Cover in July 2009.

But the actress, who turned 34 last Thursday, isn’t interviewed.

In the new cover story for Harper’s Bazaar, writer Naomi Wolf explores why we’re fascinated by all things Angelina.

Whatever Jolie does next, Wolf believes that she’ll continue to capture the public interest.
