Celebrity Style Craze: Superdry
Role model: David Beckham is just one of a number of high profile stars to sport the fashion label Superdry
Celebrity Style Craze: Superdry – When it comes to fashion, the truth is that we use our favourite celebrities for role models and inspiration as much (if not more!) than we do the latest trends on the catwalk.
Celebrity Style Craze: Superdry – There is something effortlessly cool about the celebrity persona, and even without realising it we absorb information from the latest photos and videos of our favourite icons.
Watching celebrities is a great way to catch up with the latest popular brands, and one brand in particular even owes its major surge in popularity to a celebrity fan.
The clothes shop Superdry was a brand that existed in relative obscurity until around about 2005. That was when football legend David Beckham was photographed wearing the brand’s iconic Osaka shirt – without even having been asked.
Celebrity Style Craze: Superdry – From that starting point, Superdry has risen to the top of the celebrity fashion tables, turning over an epic £139 million a year (according to figures from 2010).
Kate Winslet has been pictured sporting the Superdry logo on t-shirts, whilst pop star Pixie Lott was snapped last year in a Superdry dress. Leonardo DiCaprio, Zac Efron, Bradley Cooper are all hot celebs that have been caught in Superdry products over the past few years.
There’s something about the hybrid innovation of Japanese and Western style that appeals to today’s fashion market. Not one to stay still for long, Superdry claim to design over 5,000 different pieces per year, constantly updating their collections.
Nevertheless, the simplicity of the “Osaka 6” will never be beaten. If there is one Superdry item in your wardrobe, this should be it.
