Yves Saint Laurent Perfume Ad Banned for ‘Simulating Drug Use’ – According to an article by Sean Poulter, Consumer Affairs Editor UK, in the Daily Mail newspaper, the UK Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) has announced a ban on the TV commercial on the grounds it was irresponsible.
Yves Saint Laurent Perfume Ad Banned for ‘Simulating Drug Use’ – The upmarket commercial featured model and actress Melanie Thierry, who featured in the BBC’s costume drama Charles II, opposite Rufus Sewell.
According to the Daily Mail: “The beautiful French actress, promoting the luxury fragrance Belle D’Opium, drew a finger down the inside her arm as if injecting herself. She was then seen writhing, apparently out of control, before suddenly dropping to the floor. Finally, a voice-over stated: ‘I am your addiction, I am Belle D’Opium. The new fragrance by Yves St Laurent.’”
